"The Doula as the Witness. An overview of the Doula Movement in Australia from where we began to the present day"
How do we as Doulas integrate what we witness as Birth workers in what we see and feel. Ranging from Mothers and babies being treated with respect, dignity and love to women given no choice, not being heard and undermined. In turn what we feel can range from elated, privileged, loving and deeply satisfied to feeling angry, traumatised and helpless. How then do we process our experience and access the support we need. An overview of the Doula movement in Australia from where we began to the present day, which is something to celebrate. (About Sunderai) |
'Loss of a Dream'
Our reproductive years are a dynamic time in our lives. For some it is exciting, blissful and loving but for others disappointing and sad. I will explore the challenges we face relating to infertility, abortion, miscarriage, stillbirth and death of a child soon after birth. Awareness around what to do with a little body, home and green funerals. When a child dies a tidal wave washes over a woman, her family and her community. This is such a normal part of our reproductive years but still remains such an unspoken event. Let’s develop more appropriate language and skills to ease the path to wellbeing. (About Denise) |

'Gorillas, Villages and Baby brain. A new paradigm for postnatal transformation'
Birth isn't just about making babies, it's about making mums too. Traditional cultures acknowledge birth as part of a holistic social, emotional and physical system where the birth of a mother is seen as a time for deep initiation. But our understanding and expectations of women after childbirth are vastly different here in Australia, where birth is seen as a medical event and the concept of postpartum doesn't even exist. Learn how the first 40 days after childbirth can set the stage for the next 40 years, and how to care for women and their families during this critical period. (About Julia) |

'Birth Mandala: Going deeper into the Sacred circle'
Psychologically a mandala can represent a sacred enclosure containing the wholeness of a person. A birth mandala is a holistic preparation tool, supporting women to more deeply reflect on the balance of interconnecting elements that impact their birthing potential. (About Rhea) |
Jane will guide the group, using various rituals, to co-create the Closing Ceremony to unite us with a common intention and vision to hold us beyond the weekend’s conference.
