Georgia Adams
Georgia Jane is the founder of Bodyworks, a bodywork studio in North Fitzroy supporting people through pregnancy, postpartum, pelvic health and major life transitions. Her work grew out of her own journey of learning to feel at home in her body, and more than a decade of receiving and studying bodywork. She began studying midwifery in 2020, and her practice draws on fascia-informed bodywork, internal pelvic release work, and Rebozo techniques. Georgia also runs Bodyworks Education, where she teaches touch as an everyday skill rather than something reserved for professionals, including Touch Literacy for Birthing Partners. She works with a team of practitioners who share her trauma-aware, responsive approach to touch.
Touch Literacy for Birth Workers
Proposed Presentation Blurb: Touch is one of the most powerful tools a birthing partner has, yet most are never shown how to use it. In this 90-minute hands-on mini workshop, we share the Touch Literacy for Birthing Partners approach that we teach to partners and support people at Bodyworks. Participants will explore grounding, intuitive touch techniques that promote balance and ease tension and discomfort during pregnancy, and practical ways to work together with touch during labour. Doulas can use these skills directly with the people they support, or teach them to partners so they feel confident supporting the birthing person with their hands and presence from pregnancy through birth. There will be space to practise, ask questions, and build confidence. It's not about doing it perfectly; it's about listening, softening and offering care with intention. All levels of experience are welcome, and no bodywork training is required.
